$60 million 'Pink Star' jewel to be unloaded by Sotheby's

LONDON: A 59.60-carat blended cut precious stone known as "The Pink Star" will be unloaded in Hong Kong one month from now by Sotheby's which said it could bring upwards of $60 million to make it the most costly jewel of its kind at any point sold.

The pink jewel is the biggest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Pink precious stone at any point evaluated by the Geological Institute of America (GIA), yet the shining stone is still sufficiently little to fit onto a ring, the sale house said.

Sotheby's said that the precious stone, which was at first mined by De Beers in 1999 as a 132.5 carat unpleasant jewel before being cut and cleaned, was the most significant cleaned precious stone at any point offered at sale.

"The phenomenal size of this 59.60-carat precious stone, combined with its abundance of shading, outperforms any known pink jewel record ever," said David Bennett, worlwide Chairman of Sotheby's Jewelry Division.

The sale will happen in Hong Kong on April 4.
